Does plywood pattressing impact the fire performance of a Siniat system?
Guidance in the use of plywood pattressing within Siniat Partitions
Whilst Siniat Systems are not tested with plywood pattressing as part of the build-up, a plywood pattress can be installed between the studs and within the partition cavity using Siniat Pattress Brackets (18mm Plywood), Siniat Shallow Wall Channels (15mm Plywood) or Siniat Metal Angles (12mm Plywood). Siniat has undertaken indicative testing to demonstrate there is a negligible impact by having a plywood pattress in the cavity of the partition.
In indicative tests to BS EN 1364-1, the following observations were made:
- Inclusion of ply pattress did not reduce time to Integrity, E, failure.
- Inclusion of ply pattress did not reduce time to Insulation, I, failure.
- Inclusion of ply pattress did not cause failure at any deflection point.
- Inclusion of ply pattress contributed to a delay in temperature increase at the following thermocouple locations: back of exposed plasterboard layer; face of unexposed plasterboard layer, and both internal metal studs.
These indicative tests suggested that the inclusion of an internal plywood pattress did not have a significant adverse impact on the fire resistance capabilities of the tested systems (integrity, insulation, and deflection). It is Siniat's position that the plywood pattressing will have no negative impact on the fire classification of any Siniat partition system.
Siniat partitions tested with plywood inner layers
If you are adding plywood, not as pattressing between studs, but as a continuous board layer fixed through to the stud then under EN 1364-1 requirements this must be tested as part of a full system.
