Non-Fire Resisting Partitions
1. Small Surface damage: Abrasions, dents and penetrations the size of screw holes:
Where you have small repairs in non fire resisting Siniat Partition Systems, Siniat Joint Filler can be used to fully fill the damaged areas and small holes
Repair procedure;
- Carefully remove any loose or torn paper.
- Apply Siniat Joint filler over the damaged area, ensuring all depressions and screws holes are fully filled and create a smooth surface.
- Once dry, sand and prepare the area for Siniat Sealer and paint as necessary.
This straightforward approach addresses common surface damage without requiring the replacement of gypsum board.
2. Small, visible holes:
For small holes, up to 250mm x 250mm in a sheet of plasterboard, you can use a patch to repair the damage on single boarded or multiple board layered partitions. The below guidance gives an option to repair with Siniat components although other methods using third party products, such as timber battening, to frame or patch the openings can be used if deemed suitable by the site team.
Repair procedure
- Square off the damage creating a hole large enough to install framing components.
- Frame the cut out with Siniat framing components (see below diagrams), these components can be fixed to the existing board or back to the partition studs.
- Cut a patch the same size and board type as the cut out section ensuring a tight and flush joint.
- Mechanically fix all board edges to metal framing components with four fixings one for each corner and 10mm-13mm in from the board edge.
The application of taping and jointing will be difficult to hide over a small area and may result in visual imperfections; where aesthetics are critical you should replace the complete plasterboard. Alternately, a neat fit of the new board rip which is then skim finished would also give a smooth finish.

3. Large, visible holes:
For damage greater then 250mm x 250mm in a sheet of plasterboard, board rips must be cut back to the Siniat partition studs
Repair procedure
- Cut a minimum 300mm rip of board covering the damaged area back to the framing components.
- Frame the cut out with suitable Siniat framing components (see below diagrams).
- Cut a patch the same size and board type as the cut out section ensuring a tight and flush joint.
- For multiple layer systems, stagger vertical and horizontal patch joints by at least 300mm.
- Mechanically fix all board edges to metal framing components with fixings at 300mm centres and 10mm-13mm in from the board edge.
The application of taping and jointing will be difficult to hide over a small area and may result in visual imperfections; where aesthetics are critical you should replace the complete plasterboard. Alternately, a neat fit of the new board rip which is then skim finished would also give a smooth finish.

Fire Resisting Partition Systems
Fire resisting wall systems are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke in buildings, providing critical time for evacuation and fire response. Often during construction these fire resisting walls can become damaged. When this happens, it’s important to perform repairs that maintain the fire resistance performance of the wall assembly.
In all cases where fire performing Siniat partitions are repaired Siniat metal framing components or studs must back all horizontal and vertical board joints. In systems with multiple board layers a minimum 300mm overlap of boards is required.
The below outlines various types of damage that may occur in fire resisting drywall assemblies and provides recommendations for respective repairs to preserve the integrity of fire resisting systems.
1. Small Surface damage: Abrasions and dents:
Siniat Joint Filler is can be used to repair minor damage up to a maximum of 3mm deep into the core. This includes small surface scuffs, abrasions and small paper tears. The core may be exposed, but must still be structurally sound.
Repair procedure:
- Carefully remove any loose or torn paper.
- Apply Siniat Joint filler over the damaged area, ensuring all depressions are filled, and create a smooth surface.
