What do I need to do to achieve fire protection to structural steel beams/columns?

Etex provides a few options to fire protect structural steel beams and columns. In order to provide a suitable system, knowledge of the fire protection period and the size of the steel are required.

The size of the steel is used to calculate the Hp/A, which is the heated perimeter divided by the cross sectional area. It is known as the section factor. The section factor is then read off a table to determine the correct level of protection. There is a table for each material type and also protection levels (temperature).

Siniat provide a framed encasement system utilising a clip frame system and Siniat Fireboard. Systems are based on single layer 12.5mm or 15mm Fireboard as well as double layer versions.

Promat have a number of products to protect structural steel without a frame and can be consulted separately for specific details of those systems.
