Can Weather Defence™ be used for steel encasements?

Weather DefenceTM  is designed and tested as an external sheathing board for use within Siniat façade and Thruwall systems. It's intended application is as a sheathing board that provides temporary weather protection during construction, allowing internal works to progress while the external wall is still in progress.

Although Weather Defence™ is classified as a Type GM-F board, it has not been tested or assessed by Siniat for use in any fire‑protection steel encasement system. Siniat can only recommend uses that are supported by verified and certified system test data, we cannot recommend the use of Weather Defence™ for steel encasements or any fire‑resisting encasement application.

For applications requiring fire protection to structural steel, we do offer a fully tested and certified solutions: 

PROMATECT®‑XS – Frameless EN‑tested System - Up to 60 Minutes Protection
A1 non‑combustible board (EN 13501‑1) designed specifically for fire protection of structural steel up to 600 mm deep, providing up to 60 minutes of fire resistance when installed as part of a tested system.  It has been tested to EN standards, including bespoke junction testing carried out collaboratively by Siniat and Promat, ensuring validated performance at interfaces between steel encasements and partitions.

Structural Steel Guidance
Promat also publishes extensive guidance on steel encasement requirements and fire‑resistance durations as part of its Passive Fire Protection Handbook, which includes systems tested and classified to EN 13381‑4 and EN 1363‑1.
