Can I dot & dab your Thermal Boards?
Direct Bond lining systems are suitable for most level, masonry substrates. The substrate must be clean and dust free with all loose material removed. Substrates with a high suction rate should be treated prior to bonding with a PVAC agent. Walls with higher risk of moisture ingress, such as solid masonry external walls, can only be bonded to once a
-
How do I upgrade acoustics on existing masonry walls?
To improve the acoustic performance of an existing masonry wall a number of steps can be taken. Initially, a check of the masonry wall can be carried out to identify any gaps which can result in an easy noise transfer route. Such gaps should be filled with suitable material. Blockwork inner leaf can take a parge coat to seal over the whole surface
-
Can you use Siniat Universal Bonding Compound on external walls?
Solid external walls are not suitable for the direct bond system as these areas can be prone to moisture ingress. Cavity walls are suitable as the cavity minimizes the amount of water that can be pulled through by the dab. The bonding compound can draw in moisture from the masonry background which is absorbed by the adhesive compound. This can caus
-
Can I dot and dab onto tanking membrane?
This will depend on what the tanking membrane is, but in most cases the answer will be no. The very nature of what these products are will prevent some suction of moisture into the substrate from the dab which is partly how it forms the bond. It is recommended to use a framed lining system in such areas, specifically an independent lining so as no
-
What is the working temperature of Universal Bonding Compound?
Universal Bonding Compound should not be used when the temperature is 5 degrees or below at the time of use or within its curing period. It should also not be applied if the temperature is above 35 degrees or above as this causes the compound to dry too quickly before hydration is completed.

Do I need to use a moisture resistant plasterboard if I am applying a full height tiled finish?
Siniat recommend the use of a Moisture resistant plasterboard in areas of high humidity like bathrooms for example. The final finish will be the first line of defence against moisture, but over time water can soak through grout if not sealed adequately. A moisture resistant board will give further defence to temporary exposure. Siniat supplies Mois
-
Could I install cable penetration through head track?
It is recommended cable penetrations avoid framing components and penetrate board only. The hole should be as tight as possible with Siniat Intumescent Acoustic Sealant to seal the hole to the cable. For partitions without deflection heads the cable should be installed with enough slack to allow it too drop below the head track and pass through boar
-
What height can your Independent Wall Lining (IWL) systems achieve?
The Siniat Independant Wall Lining systems maximum height is dependant on a number of factors such as the stud specification (size, gauge and centres) and board layers and type applied to the stud frame. The heights quoted in the Siniat literature for cold state are based upon L/240 which limits the mid height lateral deflection of the specified bu
-
Can the Siniat Direct Bond Lining system be used below ground level?
In general it is not recommended to use the Siniat DIrect Bond Lining System below ground level or on any substrates subject to moisture ingress. A mechanical fix lining system, should be used instead. The nature of the gypsum bond would absorb moisture over time which can lead to the degradation of the bond. If the back ground is treated to preven
-
Does Siniat have a board that can achieve severe duty and offer moisture resistance?
Any combination of 2 layers of 12.5mm/15mm plasterboards each side of a stud frame will be classed as Severe Duty. To achieve Severe Duty with a single layer each side of the stud frame would require the use of 15mm LaDura, Universal, Megadeco or Aquaboard. Of these, LaDura is classed as H1 moisture resistance to BS EN 520, Aquaboard is classed as G
-
When fixing Siniat framing systems, how far can the partition overhang the structural edge?
For internal Siniat partitions or linings, the base track can cantilever off the structural edge as per the below: Siniat internal frames can cantilever the structural edge by up to 33% of the width of the track. The base / head track fixing should be positioned in the middle third of the track width, staggered within that zone. (i.e no closer tha
-
What type of Moisture Board do I need to use in Bathroom environments, H1 or H2?
The use of moisture board in bathroom areas, the requirement for moisture board use in bathroom locations is set out as a recommendation in BS 8212 : Code of practice for dry lining and partitioning using gypsum plasterboard, which states ‘’ where the wallboard is to be exposed for short periods to humidity or moisture, for example in Kitchens and B
-
Can you use Siniat Universal Bonding Compound against a plastered background?
Siniat Universal Bonding Compound is not recommended to be used on a plaster background (painted or unfinished). Instead it is recommended to use the Siniat Shallow Wall Channel mechanically fixed through the plaster to the substrate behind with suitable fixings assuming the surface is plumb and true. The Shallow Wall Channel is 15mm deep which wil
-
What type of fixings should be used to fix Siniat Tracks on site?
When Siniat fire test a system, the track fixings are determined by selecting an appropriate type for the substrate the rig is constructed from. Siniat do not have track fixings within its range - it is the responsibility of the installing contractor to select the correct fixing to suit the substrate. It is recommended that suitable non combustible
-
What is the maximum void depth that can be achieved with a dryliner system?
There are two Dryliner Bracket components that can be used alongside the Dryliner Channel and Dryliner Track. The Siniat SR Bracket can facilitate cavity depths between 25 and 60mm. The Siniat XR Bracket can facilitate cavity depths between 25mm and 130mm.
-
What is the shelf life of your Universal Bonding Compound?
Siniat Universal Bonding Compound will have the date of production printed on it and the shelf life of the product is 5 months.
-
Which Insulation manufacturer should I use in Siniat systems?
Siniat do not recommend any particular provider of insulation. Where glass wool insulation is shown in the cavity of a partition for acoustic purposes only, then it is the thickness of the product that is relevant to meet the acoustic performance. Densities will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but are typically in the 10kg/m3 to 25kg/m3 range
-
Can an extra layer of plasterboard be fixed to an existing party wall to improve performance?
Fixing additional layer of plasterboard to an existing separating wall will likely yield some improved performance. However the amount of gain will be dependent on the specification of the original wall. As this is already a high performing wall (fire and acoustics) the increase in performance may not be that significant. To best advise, the specif

How do you fix plywood pattresses to I stud linings?
In order to install a pattress board within an I stud lining system, the Siniat Pattress Bracket for a 18mm plywood pattress or Siniat Shallow Wall Channel for 15mm pattress can be used. This is fixed to the face of the I stud and allows the pattress to be secured either side within the line of the framing - example below:
-
Can the Siniat Dryliner system be installed short of the soffit?
This should only be considered if there are no performance criteria for the dryliner to meet. If no performance is required from the Siniat Dryliner system then it can be stopped short of the soffit but there are a couple of points that must be carried out. The head track must still be installed over the dryliner channels and faced fixed through w
-
What is the detail for forming around SVP/RWP?
RWP/SVP are often located in the corner of a wall and thus are hidden by a two sided encasement to box them in. Sometimes they are away from the corner and in such circumstances would require a 3 sided encasement to box in against a wall. In use these can generate unwanted noise so the encasement to box in should be a high level acoustic specificat
